Credit Analyst I

Summary

The Credit Analyst I is responsible for a mix of credit analysis responsibilities and administrative support.

Responsibilities

Credit Analysis:

  • Analyzes all relevant credit and financial data on new, renewal and existing loans, including financial statements and/or tax returns, data provided by credit bureaus, other financial institutions and financial institution files to evaluate the creditworthiness of business lending prospects and existing borrowers in order to assist in the loan decision-making process.
  • Remains independent of the lending decisions to help ensure the highest loan quality and adherence to loan policies, regulations, and legislation.
  • Works with the Commercial Lending Department and provides technical advice and assistance to loan officers to support the quality growth of the loan portfolio.
  • Analyze credit data and financial statements in order to evaluate the credit worthiness of commercial businesses.  Complete credit analyses and summaries for our Small Business Loan Program and Bankers Healthcare loan program.
  • Prepares annual loan reviews for our borrowers.

Administration

  • This position shall be responsible for or assist with the following.
  • Responsible for the accurate set-up, preparation and timely completion of Classified Asset Plans in support of the review process for impairment of nonaccrual and TDR loans which includes the appropriate application of valuation methods.
  • Responsible for the accurate set-up, preparation and timely completion of various management reports including, but not limited to the management reporting prepared for Senior Management and the Board of Directors.   Recommends improvements within the management reporting process which, when implemented, will result in more effective management tools for the Bank. 
  • Coordinates the third-party reporting process (i.e., appraisals, environmental, M&E appraisals, etc.)
  • Responsible for the coordination and tracking of financial statements which involves the maintenance of financial statements and other pertinent loan/credit data. 
  • Responsible for the coordination and timely completion of the Quality Control Audits and HMDA Application Register process for commercial loans.
  • Oversees and coordinates the management of commercial credit/documentation files for various auditors and regulators, as assigned.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all the lending compliance regulations.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of the Credit Administration Responsibilities and Procedures Manual.  
  • Acts affirmatively in all activities under his or her control in conformance with Bank lending policies.

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Other duties including special projects and non-complex credit analysis functions, as may be assigned. Flexibility is required as the commercial business continues to evolve.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or other appropriate business related field with 2-5 years previous experience within a commercial lending division of a financial institution or an equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial banking and credit lending laws and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to complete various job tasks in an accurate manner; must be able to organize, prioritize, and meet work deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.
  • Able to deal with co-workers in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to exchange information and to present ideas, facts and technical information with others clearly and concisely.
  • Able to perform under stress when confronted with critical timeline constraints and large work volumes.
  • Ability to identify tasks requirements and monitor progress towards completion.
  • Ability to receive guidance and supervision and follow work rules and procedures.  Ability to meet deadlines, and to meet punctuality and attendance standards.
